How to pronounce tau-bench

tau-bench is most commonly pronounced "tau bench" (/ˈtaʊ ˌbɛntʃ/). This is one of several readings in active use; the developer community hasn't converged on a single answer.

Sierra's τ-bench (now τ²/τ³-bench) is the tool-agent-user benchmark whose pass^k scores are cited in most 2025-2026 model cards. The leading character is the Greek letter tau, and the maintainers' README answers "How do you say τ³-bench?" with "We just say 'tau three'" — so it is the letter name, never "TAO" as in Daoism.
