So it's a single syllable: a 'kw' onset glued onto the sound of the letter Q (/juː/), i.e. KWYOO — NOT spelled out 'Q-W-Q' and NOT the kaomoji 'qwq' face. The creators' 'similar to quill' is an informal onset hint (shared 'kw-'), not a literal rhyme — /kwjuː/ does not end in an L and does not match quill's short 'i'. Lowercase middle 'w' makes it look like an emoticon, which is exactly why almost nobody guesses the intended sound.
