How to pronounce GPTQ

acronym community-consensus

jee pee tee kyoo /ˌdʒiː piː tiː ˈkjuː/ mp3

GPTQ is most commonly pronounced "jee pee tee kyoo" (/ˌdʒiː piː tiː ˈkjuː/). This is the widely-used reading among engineers, though edge cases exist.

Post-training weight quantization method for LLMs ("GPT" + "Q" for quantization). An initialism, spelled out letter-by-letter: jee-pee-tee-KYOO, primary stress on the final Q. The "GPT" prefix is read like GPT-4 (not "gee-putt"). Not pronounced as a single word.

Pronouncing project and product names correctly avoids the small but persistent friction of being gently corrected during standups, conference Q&As, and team calls. Hearing the word a few times locks in the right reading better than reading IPA ever will. Pronounce is a community-maintained dictionary — every entry tagged with a confidence level and (where possible) a citable source.

Hear it from the command line

$ say-it GPTQ # primary × 3 + audible "or: …" for each alternate
$ say-it --why GPTQ # print the dict entry with source URL
