tongyi is most commonly pronounced "tohng yee" (/ˈtʊŋˈji/). This is the widely-used reading among engineers, though edge cases exist.
Alibaba's Tongyi (通义) brand umbrella over Qwen / Tongyi Qianwen (通义千问, pinyin Tōngyì Qiānwèn), surfaced across Alibaba Cloud Model Studio and Hugging Face. Pinyin Tōngyì: tōng (通, rounded vowel of English "song") + yì (义, "yee"). STRESS-pattern: TOHNG-yee, roughly even with a slight lift on the first syllable. English speakers often mangle it as "tongue-ee" or "tahn-jee"; the o is the rounded "ong" of "song," not "tongue."

Pronouncing project and product names correctly avoids the small but persistent friction of being gently corrected during standups, conference Q&As, and team calls. Hearing the word a few times locks in the right reading better than reading IPA ever will.
